Laura Daniel of KWA was on hand to accept the award, which is made from Forest Free wood from within the perimeter of Atlanta.

We’re happy to announce that KWA was recently selected as a recipient of a 2016 Fulcrum Award from Atlanta-based environmental advocacy and consultant group Southface! The Iberville Offsites in New Orleans were identified as a project that promotes Southface’s vision of a regenerative economy, responsible resource use, social equity and a healthy built environment for all.

2016 is the inaugural year for the Fulcrum Awards, which were presented at Southface’s recent Greenprints conference. The six-member jury included David Ellis of the  Greater Home Builders Association; Jane Hayse of the Atlanta Regional Commission; Atlanta Planning Commissioner Tim Keane; Nathaniel Smith of the Partnership for Southern Equity; Shane Totten of Southface; and Flor Velarde of Invest Atlanta. The jurors selected four projects that clearly exemplify Southface’s vision statement. In regards to the Iberville Offsites, the jury felt that felt that “the project truly excelled in all areas of the vision statement, building up communities, demonstrating inspired construction and re-development, included high caliber energy efficiency features and retaining the residents who have inhabited the neighborhoods for generations.”

The Iberville Offsites are a collection of 46 single and multi-family dwellings in the Treme and Seventh Ward neighborhoods of New Orleans. KWA, working with New Orleans preservation and redevelopment experts Redmellon Restoration and Development, helped to regenerate the blighted properties with emphasis on affordability, accessibility, and sustainability. Learn more about the project – and hear about it from the residents of the rehabbed homes – on Redmellon’s website.

Head to the Southface blog to read more about the awards. Thanks to Southface for the recognition and congratulations to the other winners!
